Committee Reports

Committee reports will be linked here

It’s been a long time since we met but I’m not sure when our next meeting will be. I look forward to getting back together and joining in fellowship and working to better our Church and community.
We do know that our usual parking for the fiber festival will not happen this year. They have cancelled that event. Also the Book and Brunch is cancelled so we won’t be helping with food preparation and serving. We are going to have a roadside clean up in September for those who are comfortable participating. We will send an announcement with the date.
Remember that the Methodist Men is open to all men of the Church. Please join us for breakfast, fellowship and a short business meeting later this year.

I surely do miss seeing your faces, but I do listen. Although we have not met in person, emails and phone calls have been flying. Over email and with help from the US Postal Service, we were able to provide an auction item for The Young Life 2020 Golf Tournament and Auction. Our Claybrooke Sport Bag was loaded with everything a sport enthusiast would need for an active day including a round of mini golf for 4 and a cute pillow for a nap afterwards. A long with the bag, we were also able to include a $200 donation to Young Life. Many thanks to all of our members who responded to this opportunity to continue the UMW Purpose of mission to youth.

We have missed our May 14th and August 13th meetings but will soon be getting together to assemble 48 Hygiene Kits and 35 School Kits for UMCOR. We still have no idea when and where delivery will be, but with all the hurricanes and wildfires, they will be needed. Watch your email.
The Virginia Conference United Methodist Women has changed all meetings through 2020 to ZOOM. I have not heard anything from the Charlottesville District UMW but assume all of our opportunities have also been changed. Once again watch your email.
On a more cheerful note, I have been contacted by the Editor of Response Magazine about our Book and Brunch Event. Last year we sent an article about the event, written by Joan, and 3 photos for potential inclusion in the Bright Lights section of Response. It looks like our Book and Brunch story will be in the November/December 2020 Response. How Exciting!
Our next scheduled meeting is November 14th. Let’s pray that will happen. Be careful, wear your mask, check in with your friends and family and keep praying.

ReOpening Plans

Mt Pleasant UMC is making progress towards reopening after closure due to COVID 19. While we all long for return to normal, safety will probably preclude “normal” in-person worship for some time. Return to “normal” may not be before the Advent season.

We are gradually moving in the direction of “normal” in a deliberate fashion over time as members become more comfortable that the safety of both attendees and worship leaders is being adequately protected. For those who do not yet feel comfortable worshiping in-person, we will continue our phone-in services from the sanctuary indefinitely and enhance them to include video for those with capability to live stream video at home. Worship is very different until conditions allow relaxation of restrictions. Some join us by phone, some will watch from home on a computer when available, some join us in the fellowship hall where the Pastor conducts the worship service. We pray that all will continue to be patient; that our worship experiences are meaningful despite restrictions, and that all will remain safe.

Please check back to this website for updates. We are currently conducting audio services by dialing into 508-924-2730. We are having technical difficulties but hope to begin video services soon. We have begun a phased in approach to face to face worship. Please join us as you can and hear the good news of God!!

TUESDAY MORNINGS – there is a weekly informal group of men that meet at Mt. Pleasant (in the parking lot) to discuss whatever seems relevant. We start at 8:30 – you can bring your own folding chair or use one from the fellowship hall. Each week someone volunteers to present a discussion topic along with a corresponding bible verse. It’s fun, a good opportunity to get together, and we social distance without the need for masks. Please join the group. Any questions, give Earl Mielke a call – (703) 967-0308
